The ADI Site has a varied history spanning through its occupation by the Darug people for thousands of years, occupation by white settlers such as the family of Governor Philip Gidley King in the early 1800's, the use of the site for timber getting and farming, the resumption of the land from private land owners in 1941 for the war effort, the development of the munitions manufacturing industry that employed hundreds of local people until 1994 through to the current day when plans to develop the site for housing and industrial uses has ignited community anger and passion and has defined an era in which Western Sydney has come of age in regards to community and environmental activism. |
